Cyadine Interview

Jake: Yo what’s up? Can you introduce yourself and what you play in the band?

Noah: My names Noah Polston, I play guitar (and occasionally scream) for Cyadine

Jake: Can you tell us a bit about the band? Where are you from?… How’d you get started?

Noah: So the band was started by my drummer Bennie Knappenberger and his twin brother Eddie (our old rhythm guitarist) at the tail end of 2016. I didn’t join t’ill the summer of 2017. We’ve had a shit ton of line-up changes since then, but myself, Bennie, and our bassist Shane Uhl have been there since pretty much the beginning. We are from Detroit, MI.

We started playing gigs locally, and have pretty much continued to do that for the last ten years haha. We’ve done one tour, and a handful of out of state shows, but we absolutely will be doing a LOT more of both.

Jake: You guys just put out your new record ‘Violence In Measure’, and it’s relentless front to back. Fast, heavy and just feels like you nailed what you were going for.. What was the process like making it? Give us a little backstory on the record’s creation.

Noah: Thanks man! This record technically goes back to 2022, that’s when I remember bringing the main riff for “Suffer Inside” to the guys, and it sounded completely different back then haha. I vividly remember writing “Spill Your Guts” that summer and I wrote “Find Out” in the summer of 23’. So those three have been around the longest. Shane our bassist, is an underrated riff/song writer. For instance, “No Place Like Home” was written pretty much completely by him, and “Make a Move” was written by him and Bennie one day at practice, and the intro/title track was also written by Shane.

Those songs and “Dignity Lost” were kinda thrown together closer to Spring of 24’ when we recorded the album at Bricktop Studios in Chicago with the almighty Andy Nelson. I can’t really say we were “going for” anything in particular, it’s just been a natural continuation of our style/genre since we started. If you listen back, we started as pretty much straight-up Thrash/Groove Metal, went into kinda a more melodic “Alice in Chains meets Pantera” thing, and now we are just crossover at this point. But I will say this, I do feel like “Violence in Measure” is where we finally found our footing so to speak, and everything we do from this point forward will have the same foundation more or less.

Jake: What are you some of the bands that got you into heavy music and influenced you as you started writing music?

Noah: Pantera, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, and Lamb of God were the ones that really got me going I’d say.

But the tunes on this record, and within the last few years, include influences from bands like Overkill, Wrathchild America, Nuclear Assault, Widowmaker, and more recently even heavier shit like Morbid Angel, Deicide, GoreFest, Obituary, etc…

Jake: Really sick that Hardlore put out the new record and I love the story Colin shared about hearing the demo and just needing to put it out cause it ripped so hard. I totally get his need to jump on it, but were you taken back to hear he was down for it?

Noah: Agreed! Colin is literally the coolest, we appreciate him more than he’ll ever know. And “taken back” is an understatement hahaha. We were definitely proud of the record, but we definitely didn’t think someone like Colin would be that into it, sometimes we still don’t! Haha

Jake: If you could pick one song that’s not in your catalogue that would define the band what would it be and why?

Noah: I think you mean like a song we didn’t write? I guess I’d have to say “Strength Beyond Strength” by Pantera, cause we’ve definitely had ups and downs over the last decade, but we always end up getting back on our feet and pushing forward. I think this record and its response thus far are a perfect example of us triumphing over the bullshit we’ve been through.

Jake: What’s next for you guys? any tours or anything in the works?

Noah: We’ve got a few shows this month, and we absolutely plan on touring as much as possible, as soon as possible, and just playing out more in general. I will also gladly say that the new songs we’re currently working on are heavy as all fuck, and I’m so excited to play them live haha.

Jake: You got any hardcore hot takes you care to share?

Noah: My personal “hardcore hot take” is that I don’t really listen to any straight up “hardcore”. More crossover stuff, I.E Leeway, Cro-Mags, VOD, DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Only Living Witness, Inside Out, and our homies in Drain!

Jake: Shout out some bands you’ve been fucking with that deserve some hype!

Noah: Nothing really current, but Cyclone Temple, Widowmaker, Gorefest, and Wrathchild America, come to mind. And of COURSE our homies in Void and Assault. Bennie wants me to mention King’s Command and New World Man as well🤘🤘

Jake: Thanks for taking the time to answer these Qs! Y’all gotta come rip in Toronto soon.

Noah: Thanks again for having us! That will definitely happen sooner than later.
