Rust Interview
September 24, 2026

Jake: Yo what’s up! Can you introduce yourself and what you play in the band?
Rob: What’s good my dude! I’m Rob B. and I play bass for Rust!
Jake: What’s some of the first bands that got you into hardcore??
Rob: First bands for me were Hatebreed, Madball, Agnostic Front, and Biohazard back in the late 90’s
Jake: Tell us about the new tracks you’ve dropped and if there are more coming?
Rob: We just released two new singles, ‘Curse Your Name’ and ‘Path to Peace’ out now on New Age Records. We’re currently working on a new record due out next year so we figured we’d get a couple new ones out since it’s been a min since we’ve had anything come out!
Jake: You guys keep getting better and harder with every release.. Has anything changed in your approach to songwriting or influences??
Rob: Thank you brother! That means the world, honestly! Approach-wise, I’d say our approach has pretty much remained relatively the same in terms of maintaining the groove aspect. Influence-wise, we all listen to different forms of heavy music but the common ground we all share has really come through on these new tracks which has taken us into harder territory.
Jake: Y’all are rippin some sick gigs soon. Tell us about them?? Where they at, who they with, what’s your expectations..
Rob: Oh man. Some unreal gigs coming up!! We’re ripping a few shows in October with the legends Despised Icon, 200 Stab Wounds and homies in Teeth and Scorching Tomb so those are going to be wild! We’re doing both Ottawa and Toronto shows. Then in November we head to the west coast with our brothers in Locked Shut for a run of shows (hit our IG for the dates) before heading back to Europe for a few more and ending with Revolution Calling (all dates on our IG as well) which I’m super stoked to be a part of this year! In terms of expectations, I try not to have any and just soak it all up! Being able to play shows outside our local circuit, with bands we admire/are friends with and making new pals along the way is about as good as it gets and it’s never lost on me how fortunate this band has been to be able to do any of that.
Jake: We all know cover tracks are a big thing in hardcore.. If Rust could only cover one song for the rest of your time as a band what would it be and why??
Rob: That my friend is a loaded question! Haha ONE cover for the rest of our time?! I’m sure we’d all have different answers but my off the cuff answer would be Fall This Time by Madball. It’s probably my favorite Madball track and I think would fit our band perfectly musically.
Jake: Any big plans for next year you can share with us?
Rob: New record hopefully in the first half of the year and more shows!!
Jake: You got any hardcore hot takes you care to share?
Rob: Sepultura (the Cavalera years) is a hardcore band.
Jake: Shout out some bands you’ve been fucking with lately that deserve some hype!
Rob: Crime Square (homies from Bulldoze, Agents of Man, etc.) just dropped a demo I fuck with a lot. The new Shogun record ‘Agonize in Defeat’ is a top fave of mine for the year. Locally, I gotta give it up to Weakness and to Unreal for putting out two absolutely heater records I’ve been listening to a lot of.
Jake: Thanks for taking the time to answer these Qs! Hopefully i’ll see you soon brother.
